CEED — design entrance exam.

The Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) is conducted by IIT Bombay for admission to Master of Design (M.Des.) and PhD programmes at the IITs and IISc.

About CEED

CEED is the qualifying exam for M.Des. and PhD design programmes at the IITs, IISc, and other participating institutes. It is conducted annually by IIT Bombay.

The CEED score is valid for one year and is used by IIT Bombay (IDC School of Design), IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Kanpur, IIT Roorkee, and IISc Bangalore for their design-programme admissions. Individual institutes may also conduct additional interviews or design tasks before final admission.

Exam pattern

CEED is conducted in two parts:

  • Part A — computer-based test. Tests visualisation and spatial ability, observation and design sensitivity, environmental and social awareness, analytical and logical reasoning, language and creativity, and design thinking.
  • Part B — drawing and design aptitude on paper. Tests sketching, visual perception, and analytical writing.

Only candidates clearing the Part A cut-off have their Part B evaluated. The final CEED score combines both parts.

Eligibility

Candidates who have completed (or are in the final year of) a degree, diploma, or post-graduate degree of three or more years, after the qualifying examination (10+2) are eligible. There is no age limit and no restriction on the number of attempts.
