M. Tech Courses Available on Qualifying GATE with Biochemical Engineering in IIT Madras

TheM.Tech programme in Chemical Engineering is spread over four semesters.The main emphasis in the first two semesters is on course work.Coursesare classified as core or compulsory courses and electives. The formerincludes Chemical Reactor Theory, Transport Phenomena, Thermodynamicsand Mathematics Methods in Chemical Engineering. In core coursesadvanced topics are covered and presented in a holistic framework. Theelective courses are decided by the student in consultation withhis/her thesis supervisor. These are intended to provide expertise inthe research area of interest for the student and also equip thestudent with the necessary tools and concepts for carrying outresearch. Theprogramme is designed so that the students are evaluated on a continualbasis. Emphasis is also placed on developing the written and oralcommunication skills of students. The research project constitutes a major part of the work in the secondyear. The student under the supervision of a faculty member carries outstate of the art research in the frontier areas of chemical engineeringsuch as computational fluid dynamics, materials science, biochemicalengineering, environmental engineering, process control, reactionengineering, transport phenomena, particle technology, semi-conductorprocessing, etc. The research involves solving problems of industrialrelevance as well as of fundamental significance.
