Yes, you are permitted to change your centre and/or paper. However, you must send your written request along with a demand draft of Rs.400/- for every centre/paper change to the Chairman, GATE office in the zone of your first choice examination city before 31st December 2007.

Generally, you will be allotted from among centres within the examination city of your first choice. Only in cases where it becomes difficult to accomodate you in the examination city of your first choice, will your second choice be activated.

The status of your application will be put up on the gate website. Click on the link "app status" and follow the instructions. Generally, your application status will be put up within two working days on receipt of your BDS cum application form

The signature should be within the bounding lines of the box provided on the BDS cum application form. Keep in mind that the signature is your identification. As a general guide line you could use the signature that you use in banks and official documents.

At the bottom of the Demand Draft, the 9 digit number to the right side of the Demand draft number is the Bank Id or the MICR number.

After procuring the demand draft for the GATE 2009 examination fee, go to the link "online application submission" on the GATE website. Register yourself with a login name, password and email id. After providing the required data, you will be able to print out the online application form. Afix your photograph and sign at the appropriate places on the online application form. Include the online application form and the demand draft and send the Duly filled-in Application Form with appropriate enclosures must be sent by Registered or Speed post to the Chairman, GATE of the Zone, the website of which has been used for making ONLINE registration on or before Wednesday, October 29, 2008. OR It can be handed over personal to respective Zonal GATE Office.

You can make the fee payment either by the offline process or by the online process. For the offline process, you make your payment either by cash at the respective banks in each zone or by demand draft sent to the zonal GATE offices by speed or registered post. For the online process, the candidates must obtain a Demand Draft, drawn on any nationalized bank in favor of Chairman of the corresponding zonal GATE Office, the website of which the candidate wishes to submit online Application. Many students think that they should some how answer all the questions and try to do lottery and put answers , they think that as there is 0.25 negative marks if they by chance make a correct guess one out of 4 questions also still they will get +0.25 but your probabilities will fail pals .

To get into any of the NIT you should try to score a percentile above 90. Generally NITS accept candidates with GATE percentiles between 85-95. If you manage to score above 95 you have a chance to get admission in IITS. Though this time percentiles may go higher due to recession.

Gate 2010 pattern will be of objective type with a total of 60 questions to be answered in total time of 3 hours.

Question paper bearing codes, AR, CE, CH, CS,CY, EC, EE, IN, MA, ME, MN, MT, PH, PI ,PY, TF Q.1 to Q.20 : Will carry one mark each (sub-total 20 marks) -1/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. Q.21 to Q.50 : Will carry two marks each (sub-total 60 marks) -2/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. Q.51 through Q.56 (3 pairs) will be common data questions. Each question will carry two marks - 2/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. Question pairs (Q.57, Q.58) and (Q.59, Q.60) will be linked answer questions. The answer to the second question of the last two pairs will depend on the answer to the first question of the pair. If the first question in the linked pair is wrongly answered or is un-attempted, then the answer to the second question in the pair will not be evaluated. Each question will carry two marks -There will be negative marks only for wrong answer to the first question of the linked answer question pair i.e. for Q.57 and Q.59, 2/3 mark will be deducted for each wrong answer. There is no negative marking for Q.58 and Q.60.

GATE Scorecard The GATE 2009 scorecard will consist of actual marks obtained by the candidate, the GATE Score, Percentile Score and All India Rank (AIR). Scorecard will be sent only to the qualified candidates. No information will be sent to candidates who are not qualified. GATE scorecard is valid for ONE YEAR ONLY. Additional scorecards (up to a maximum of two) will be issued only once on request and on payment of Rs 300 per scorecard. Such requests should reach the Organizing Chairman, GATE 2009, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, Roorkee 247 667 before August 31, 2009 together with a bank draft for the amount mentioned as above in favour of Chairman GATE, IIT Roorkee, payable at Roorkee. These scorecards will be labeled as Additional Scorecard -1 and Additional Scorecard - 2. GATE Score The GATE score, awarded in the range of 0 to 1000 reflects the candidates academic ability and will be based on his/her performance in GATE 2009 and the performances of all candidates who appeared in GATE in the last four years 2006-2009. Candidates with the same GATE score from different GATE papers and/or years can be considered to have the same performance level.

The percentile score of a candidate indicates the percentage of candidates who appeared in the same paper and scored less marks than him/her. It is calculated as follows: If N is the total number of candidates appearing in a paper, then the percentile score P is given as, P = (number of candidates who have scored less marks than the candidate / N) x 100

A typical qualitative interpretation of the GATE SCORE, for example, can be as follows: Ability Level GATE Score Range Outstanding 800 to 1000 Excellent 675 to 800 Very good 550 to 675 Good 425 to 550 Above average 300 to 425 Average 100 to 300 Below average Below 100 e. The evaluation of the ORS is carried out by a computerized process using scanning machines, with utmost care. Requests for revaluation of the answer script and re-totaling of marks will not be entertained. f. The GATE result and particulars of the qualified candidates will be made available to interested organizations (educational institutions, R and D laboratories, industries etc.) in India and abroad based on written request by the organization and on payment. Details can be obtained from GATE Chairmen of IITs / IISc.

The registration-cum-application fee for offline applications in 2009 was Rs.1000/- for General & OBC candidates and Rs.500/- for SC/ST/PD candidates. The fee for online application was Rs.900/- for General & OBC candidates and Rs. 400/- for SC/ST candidates. The registration fee is not refundable and the application form is not transferable.

Honestly, No. Tutorials and coaching may give you the training, but will lack direction unless supported by an TarGATE. We are keeping track of our competition. * GATE 2010 will be conducted by IIT Guwahati. * The pattern is set to change again from the previous pattern.(55 questions, 100 marks now). * GATE Score will be valid for two years. Third year students can now give the exam and the score will be valid for next year as well, when they pass out of their engineering exam. * 3rd year will also be allowed to give the exam yet again. * GATE 2010 - Pharmacy still remains unincluded in GATE Exam.
